OBAMA for PRESIDENT 2008

Obama image with blue sky, white sun, red and white stripped field below

We don’t have an option now...  If I’d lost Iowa, it would have been OK…  One of the other Democrats would have emerged and they would have carried the banner and we would have moved forward… and the country would move in a better direction… But because we’ve won, we have no choice.  We have to win.  Now everybody’s counting on you, not just me.  I know that’s a heavy weight, but also, what a magnificent position to find yourselves in:  where the whole country is counting on you to change it for the better.  Now those moments don’t come around very often.  Here you are, five months away from having transformed the country and made history and changed the world.  We’ve got to seize it.

Please volunteer where you can.
We are on the Obama map!  Staff and Organizing Fellows have been rolling into Charlottesville and surrounding counties to bring the Obama campaign to a wide swath of central Virginia.  The General Election campaign is beginning in earnest.   You'll get lots of chances to meet them and work with them in the coming months.  We'll be opening a Charlottesville office soon, so watch this space for updates.  The campaign is counting on volunteers (that's us!) to help Obama carry Virginia - and the nation - in November.  It's going to take a lot of work - but we're planning to have a lot of fun doing it.  Jump in where you can!  Invite your friends and colleagues to join you.

Campaign News
The campaign is speeding up now that we have staff in the area.   As of yesterday, we have a field director, five field organizers, and nine organizing fellows serving an area that stretches around Charlottesville/Albemarle from Front Royal through Harrisonburg, over through Staunton and Nelson County, up through Buckingham, Fluvanna, Louisa, Greene and Culpeper.  The regional office will be in Charlottesville - in the old A&N building on the downtown mall.  We got the keys today, and a crew will be working hard to make it habitable over the next week or so.  Stay tuned for news of the Grand Opening!

What a great Unity Picnic we had last Saturday,

It was wonderful to see many of you at the Obama picnic yesterday. I hope you enjoyed it, and feel fired up to work to elect a president we can be proud of.  About 125 people came.  Of those, 56 were new to the campaign.  Almost everybody volunteered for something.  Thanks for all you did to help make the picnic a success.
